5. Summary (ii)

Why monastic yogi systems matter for householders/ lay practioners, mind is based in first order principle, this understanding helps takes care of the mind. Second order principle is put in its place rather than so-called leading mind. Instead the priceless opportunity of planting awareness in the mindstream is recognised. Explore how mind functions and the science of phenomenal reality; how compassion + wisdom awareness dissolve self‑adherence and dualistic appearances.

1. The Purpose of These Dialogues

These dialogues exist to arise inner compassion leading to wisdom-awareness. Compassion stabilises the mind‑vehicle. Wisdom recognises the nature of phenomena. Together they dissolve the trouble of self‑ing — the hoodwink of dualistic perception.

2. Why consider two different systems?

There are two ways human beings operate:

A. Second order principle functioning

  • The mind does not know or habited to engage in its awareness first. (It is driving in blind habit, not inner-seeing).
  • It runs on conditioning, habit, early patterning.
  • It reifies “me” and “mine.”
  • It produces dualistic appearances.
  • It plants causes of suffering.
  • It destabilises the mind through the 8 worldly winds.
  • It is narrow because consciousness was not yet mature when patterns formed.

B. First order principle with second order functioning

  • Awareness is generated first.
  • Second order systems are used as tools, not tyrants.
  • Compassion conducts the mind.
  • Wisdom recognises the nature of phenomena.
  • The mind‑vehicle is cared for.
  • Appearances of samsara or nirvana arise through the three doors (body, speech, mind) but are recognised correctly.

This second mode is the Middle Way: awareness first, functionality second.

3. Why introduce monastic yogi systems to householders?

The monastic yogi system is a precise science of phenomenal reality.

It teaches:

  • how mind functions,
  • how appearances arise,
  • how suffering is generated,
  • how awareness recognises itself,
  • how duality dissolves,
  • how liberation is cultivated through daily conduct.

Householders experience the same:

  • self-adherence,
  • dualistic perception,
  • karmic propulsion,
  • second order identity,
  • afflictive emotions.

Therefore, they need the same tools.

It is a proven, unmistaken system for awakening mind.

4. The learner can “do the maths”

The yogi system is practical, not mystical.

  1. The countdown clock is on.
  2. The physical body will die.
  3. Human life is the most precious opportunity to take care of the mind (the source of continued dualistic misapprehension of appearances to the mind, or the liberate into recognition/ realisation of their ultimate nature).
  4. Compassion stabilises the mind‑vehicle.
  5. Consistent skilful means practice works in harmony with the natural law of phenomena.
  6. Negative causes → negative fruition; positive causes → beneficial fruition.
  7. Through awareness mindfulness practice mind is conducted correctly.
  8. This leads to recognition of the science of phenomena and later the true nature of mind.

This is universal education.

5. How liberation is generated (the practical method) in the mind

The practitioner can “do the maths” of compassionate wisdom:

a) Conduct the mind with compassion

This cares for the vehicle. It plants seeds of stable awareness. It prevents self-adherence from mental-emotional hijacking.

b) Understand the natural law of phenomena

Observe how phenomena appear to the mind. Utilised as a consistent practice, engaging the 3 Wisdom Tools of repeat listening, reflection and meditation for example; this generates wisdom awareness recognition leading to the opportunity of realisation of ultimate reality, once introduced to the nature of the mind by those awareness holders of the pure lineages for example, and the deeper realisation practices engaged in and brought to fruition.

c) Use skilful means to bring all phenomena onto the path

Develop single-pointed awareness focus — is like using a magnifying glass.

This is essential for deeper awareness practice.

6. Example: How skilful means dissolves suffering

  1. A painful or disharmonious appearance arises.
  2. Recognise it as the result of previous unaware action of body, speech, mind.
  3. Apply compassion as skilful means.
  4. Awareness replaces deluded appearance.
  5. Wisdom recognises emptiness:
    • phenomena are transient,
    • impermanent,
    • dependent on causes and conditions.
  6. Fixation dissolves.
  7. The mind releases its fixation with baked concepts, formed in unawareness.
  8. Awareness becomes the new habit.

This is how samsara’s fuel is removed.

7. All with a mind require mind education in order to take care of it correctly

Without first order principle:

  • the mind is destabilised by the 8 worldly winds,
  • second order principle reifies self-adherence,
  • suffering is planted again and again, (the causes and conditions of the continuance of cyclic existence)
  • the opportunity of human life is missed. In dharma terms, this is seen as a tragic waste.

With first order principle:

  • awareness learns skilful means practice methods and exercise to recognise itself,
  • compassion conducts the mind,
  • wisdom dissolves duality,
  • the practitioner plants causes of liberation,
  • the mindstream becomes aligned with its true nature.

This is why monastic yogi systems are taught and widely foe example — they are the science of phenomenal reality, proven unmistaken method for awakening, and the mind education humans have not been given.
